Rick Holmes is an independent journalist, opinion writer, newspaper editor and travel writer.

A native New Englander, he spent time in California and Tennessee before moving back to Massachusetts, where he worked at the MetroWest Daily News, serving as opinion editor. He retired in 2017 and hit the road for a few years, writing weekly columns on his travels. He now lives in Vermont and writes intermittently.
